The world is a very small place today. Viruses and bacteria can get around the world in a matter of hours due to air travel. We seriously need docs trained to recognize and treat such illnesses, even where they aren’t considered to be common.
There also needs to be ongoing research in the subject.

Because, believe it or not, they feel like that’s where they can be of most help. They take medicine very seriously. Ask my uncle and my brother. I still shake my head in wonderment on why they decide to practice medicine in this remote town where the people pay them with a bunch of bananas or a goat… a lot of times, all they get is a hand-shake. And my brother hasn’t even finished paying his massive student loans yet. So, my brother refused to practice in the US because in his own words, “US doesn’t need doctors, it needs lawyers.”

Because it’s extremely competitive to be accepted into American Allopathic Medical Schools.
