Tropical fish with Ich, please help?

My blood parrot cichlid has always been healthy, these past 7 months I’ve had him but just today I noticed his whole body covered by white spots.
I immediately went to the pet shop (Petco) and purchased the Ich medicine, Mardel Copper Safe.
I changed out his water and put the med’s in. He was so good when he was in the plastic baggy waiting for the water temps to be adjusted but after a few minutes of going into the aquarium, he lost balance and would go to the bottom and on his side.
I am really worried. I truly love this guy and don’t want to lose him. Do you think he is dieing? He will still come up for food but goes back down after and stays at the bottom sort of to one side.
Help!! Thanks in advance.

If you take really good care and spend a lot of time with the fish, he might not die.

well, temp can affect the development of ich. If there is a sudden drop in temp, then ich could grow. I’ve had several heaters in the past that have stopped working and my fish got ich because of the drop in temp. But, just follow the directions of the ich meds. Also, raising the temp helps speed up the life cycle of ich and if your fish survive, it will help get rid of it faster. Also, make shure that you clean you tank very well after it goes away. this is because the ich bacteria can still remain on the bottom of the fish tank. If possible you might want to try doing a complete cleaning of the tank, gravel and all. And be shure to net the fish out, don’t put the same infected water back into a clean tank.. you should do this for every fish you get. oh and remember to let the water temp equalize.
