Build a Society?

I had to do this for class and I was wondering how others would build their society.
You and your group members were shipwrecked on a tropical island with no hope of rescue. There are exactly 3,000 of you and the island cannot support more than 3,000. You and your group members are the only adults and the rest are children 1500 of each sex. They are completely ignorant of the ways of the modern world. The island has fruits and vegetables, enough to feed 1/3 of you. If the island is cultivated you could feed another 1/3 and if you can teach others to fish you could feed another 1/3. You need shelter, boats, tools and other necessities of life. You must provide guidance and build a soeity which is able to survive.
Who would rule? Why?
Who would do what work? Who decides this?
Who distrubute goods? How would you decide who gets what?
Would you have religion?
What would your laws be?
What education system would you establish?
How would you keep the population at 3000?
