Does anyone know if I have collected some plants from my local pond if I can add them to my tropical fish tank? I have heard native fish harbour diseases which will kill my tropical fish eg. by spread of water or plants

First check that the waterway the plants are in is not protected, contaminated, or privately owned. If it is legal to get the plants from that pond (and the water isn't receiving chemicals or excessive fertilizer runoff), sure! Be sure to put the plants in a 5% bleach dip for 2-5 minutes to kill any bacteria, parasites, viruses, snails, or any other hitchhikers. After the bleach dip, rinse the plants well and soak them in water with a triple dose of dechlorinator. Most "coldwater plants" will do just fine in tropical tanks, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
